TALLAHASSEE BASS ANGLERS

Meeting Minutes – 08/20/13

CALL TO ORDER:

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President John Rudolph.

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Don Gainey, Bob McCann, Justin Sutton, Dusty Stacy, Jason Meredith, Billy Owens, Rodger Timmons, Charlie Melton, Patrick Dooley, Rick Johnson, John Beal, John Vickers, Mike Thomas, Dallas Johnson, Dick Durbin, Les Shope, Larry Morris, John Rudolph, Van Sutton(G).

MEETING AGENDA:  The meeting agenda was reviewed.  It was accepted by general consensus.

PRIOR MEETING MINUTES:  John Rudolph advised that there were no minutes from the meeting on August 6, 2013, as we did not have a quorum present so there was no official meeting.  He asked if there were any changes or additions to the minutes from the July 22, 2013 meeting.  There being none, Rodger Timmons moved that the reading of the minutes be waived; this was seconded by Dallas Johnson; the motion passed.  John Rudolph then asked for a motion to accept the minutes as they stood; Dallas Johnson made the motion; this was seconded by Patrick Dooley; the motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Treasurer Rick Johnson provided the following treasurer’s report:

On Hand:             $  422.02

Checking:           $3,575.73

Credits:                $1,745.56

Balance:              $2,252.19

Dallas Johnson moved to accept the treasurer’s report; Mike Thomas seconded the motion.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS:  There were no guests present.

NEW BUSINESS:

Billy’s Back:  John Rudolph announced, although we all could see, that Billy Owens was at the meeting.  Billy was welcomed back with a large round of applause.  It was commented that Billy was only half back, as the other half of him had disappeared.  Billy stated that he had lost 39 pounds.

September Tournament:  There was a lengthy discussion on the conditions of the Apalachicola River near Chattahoochee.  This is the scheduled site of our September tournament.  There are many legitimate safety concerns about this area of the river when the water is high.  After much debate, Mike Thomas presented a motion that the river would be monitored, and the possibility of scheduling this tournament at a different site be presented at the first meeting in September.  Dallas Johnson seconded the motion; the motion carried.

Tournament of Champions:  There was some discussion of the Tournament of Champions, which is scheduled for September.  It appears that there may be adequate interest for the club to participate in the tournament this year.  Justin Sutton announced that there is a planning meeting scheduled for August 29th in Bristol.  The rest of the membership decided that Justin would attend this meeting as the Grand Poobah from the Tallahassee Bass Anglers.

OLD BUSINESS:

REPORT ON TAKING HANDICAPPED KIDS FISHING:  John Rudolph reported that he, Les Shope and Marty Spears had a great time taking the kids fishing.  He stated that it warms your heart to see how these kids (and adults) react to the smallest things.

Club Jerseys:   John Rudolph announced that, although Brooks Woodward was not at the meeting, that he had spoken with Brooks about the jerseys.  He stated that, to get the $39.00 per-jersey price, we would have to order a minimum of 10 just alike, meaning style, color, logos and long- or short-sleeved.  John also brought up that he thought it would be a good idea, since Brooks is a club member and trying to build his business; and due to the fact that Brooks has done all the leg-work thus far on the jerseys and will design them for us, that we put the Nichols Lures logo on the jerseys.  A motion to this affect was made by Patrick Dooley and seconded by Dick Durbin; the motion carried.

DOLLAR POT:  The dollar pot was won by John Vickers (twice).

TOURNAMENT CHAIRMAN’S REPORT:

Prior to the draw, John Rudolph announced that Jim Hughey had contacted him and once again requested permission for his stepson to fish with him; this being due mostly to the fact that the stepson knows no one in the club, and is not very fluent in English.  He said that his stepson, after he becomes more fluent in the language, intends to become a member of the club.   Larry Morris made a motion that this be allowed; Mike Thomas seconded the motion.  The motion carried.  In addition, Rodger Timmons advised that some of the medication that he is currently taking makes him extremely sensitive to the sun, which may necessitate his coming off the water early.  He doesn’t feel that it would be fair to a partner, so has requested that he be allowed to fish, but be left out of the draw and allowed to fish by himself.  This was agreed to by general consensus.
